Innovation of Battery Technology and MaterialIBM (International Business Machines) has been a key player in next-generation battery technologies for more than a decade with the creation of the Battery 500 project in 2009. This collaboration consisted of leading automotive manufacturers, National Laboratory Scientists, and major chemical manufacturers. In December of 2019, IBM released its research findings of its next generation battery. In order to move this next-generation battery technology forward from research into commercial development, IBM has joined with battery manufacturer Sidus, automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz and chemical giant Central Glass, to create a one-of-a-kind new lithium battery ecosystem. Based on IBM's revolutionary battery technology, the new-type battery is made of novel and state-of-the-art proprietary materials without any heavy metals. It is not only more environmentally friendly, but also has excellent performance in energy and power density, charging time, energy efficiency, cost, cycle life, flammability, and other aspects.
